The World Alliance of Indigenous Peoples (WAIP) is proud to announce its Ribbon Skirt & Ribbon Shirt Language Revitalization Dinner, one of several meaningful cultural events and ceremonies that will take place during the upcoming Water Is Life Cruise aboard Carnival Celebration, sailing September 26 – October 3, 2027, to the Eastern Caribbean.
As Indigenous communities around the world continue working to preserve and restore their ancestral languages, the Language Revitalization Dinner will serve as both a celebration and a call to action. The event will bring together cruise participants in a spirit of unity, cultural pride, and shared commitment to ensure Indigenous languages continue to thrive for future generations.
For many Indigenous nations, language is far more than a means of communication. It carries history, identity, traditional knowledge, values, and a unique way of understanding the world. Every word spoken in an ancestral language helps keep alive the wisdom of countless generations who came before us.
During the dinner, guests will have the opportunity to learn about language revitalization efforts taking place within Indigenous communities, hear inspiring stories of cultural preservation, and engage in meaningful discussions about the importance of protecting endangered languages. The gathering will also provide an opportunity for participants to share their own experiences and celebrate the successes being achieved through language education, immersion programs, community initiatives, and intergenerational learning.
The Language Revitalization Dinner reflects WAIP's ongoing commitment to supporting Indigenous identity and cultural preservation. Through language classes, educational resources, cultural programming, and community partnerships, WAIP continues to advocate for the revitalization of Native languages and the strengthening of Indigenous cultural heritage.
This special dinner is just one of many enriching experiences planned for the Water Is Life Cruise. Throughout the voyage, guests will participate in cultural presentations, ceremonies, educational discussions, networking opportunities, and community-building activities designed to foster intertribal connections and celebrate the diverse traditions of Indigenous peoples.
As travelers journey through the beautiful ports of St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, and Celebration Key, they will also embark on a deeper journey—one that honors the voices of the ancestors and affirms the responsibility of each generation to preserve them.
The Water Is Life Cruise promises to be more than a vacation. It will be an opportunity to learn, connect, heal, and celebrate Indigenous cultures in a welcoming and supportive environment. The Language Revitalization Dinner stands as a powerful reminder that when Indigenous languages are spoken, taught, and shared, ancestral voices continue to live on.
WAIP invites all cruise participants to join this meaningful event as we celebrate the enduring strength, beauty, and resilience of Indigenous languages and the communities that keep them alive.
